Blanche Fingar made sweet little purses and teddy bears for our Christmas shoeboxes!

Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich

Our lesson today centered on the short Book of Ruth.  Naomi was widowed at a young age, and shortly after that her two sons also died, leaving their wives Orpah  and Ruth husbandless.  Widows at that time could not own property, nor could they have a job outside their home or a career.  This put all three women in a mess, as there were no other direct male relatives to care for them.  Naomi was bitter and angry.  Orpah went back with family.  Ruth stuck with Naomi and went back to Bethlehem.  Pastor Sandi encouraged us to read the rest of the story, and reflect on how we deal with calamity.  We usually believe God is there with us, but when misfortune hits, do we always believe this?

Our pulled pork barbecue is on Saturday August 4th.  It is a take-out only dinner event.

Our annual church picnic will be held on Sunday August 5th at Keuka College athletic field following worship.  Worship that day will be at 10:30 am.  Bring a dish to pass and table service for your family.  Hamburgers and hot dogs will be provided.

Take a shoe box or two to fill for Samaritans Purse Christmas!  We have 50 boxes to fill.  Blanche Finger crocheted little purses and made small stuffed bears to include in boxes.  She started this project while in Florida last winter.  Thank you Blanche for your time and generosity.  Some lucky children will be thrilled by your talents.
