Millie Albertson rings the bells singing Christmas cheer for Yates County Christmas.

Article by Joyce L. Wiedrich

Our church participated in one of its missions the day before Thanksgiving, ringing the bells and collecting needed funds for Yates County Christmas.  This day seems to be the busiest day, with folks all shopping for their holiday and very generous with donations. Thanks to all that helped and also those who gave to this worthy cause.

Have you heard of a reverse advent calendar?  Instead of receiving, the idea is to give back.  The calendar suggests specific food items to be placed in a box every day, and donated to The Living Well.  Pastor Sandi reminded us of the covenant we signed five years ago to support The Living Well.  In October, The Living Well gave 1,000 items to families in need.

Our church delivered 484 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child from our church and local churches to the regional collection point in Painted Post.  They in turn collected over 11,000 boxes for distribution.

Pastor Sandi’s sermon finished up with our study of the book of Numbers.  600,000 people, including many that were unhappy and whining and not wanting to follow rules were lead by Moses and Aaron, who had been chosen by God by his flowering staff.  They had a huge job to help turn around many negative attitudes.  We are instructed to love God with all our heart and soul, and love our neighbors.  It helps to keep positive attitudes.

We are entering the season of Advent, with its many opportunities to give to, and serve others.  This begins with our hanging of the greens on December 2nd.
