Bluff Point UMC article for 9/19/12

Our kids learned some valuable lessons from Joyce Wiedrich last
week when Joyce presented Kylee Head and Jake Wilmott with monies from
her brother’s memorial fund, specifically the Lee Wiedrich Memorial
Scholarship Fund. Joyce has been doing this since 2006. She has given
about 20 scholarships out. Some students have received monies from this
scholarship fund every year they have been in college or in a post-high
school trade program. Joyce asks that students maintain a C average, and
also that each be active participants in the church and belong to the church
prior to attending college and/or trade school. These are “goals”, and this is
information the kids can be thinking about now. A good children’s sermon
topic for this Sunday before school starts.

Another positive note and piece of info for the kids to think about:
For two years now, our kids have been collecting pennies in big jars for the
Backpack Program at Milly’s Pantry. The jar they are currently working to
fill is their 7th jar, and we are told that up to now, the kids have raised
$500.00! Can you imagine $500.00 worth of pennies?? These kids are the
best, and we love the caring and eagerness we see in their faces…

Speaking of kids and positivites, Bev Dean’s granddaughter, Brandy
Whipple, recently received an LPN degree from the Marion S. Whelan
School of Nursing at Geneva General Hospital. Brandy is currently
working at the Homestead in Penn Yan, and taking courses to receive her
RN degree.
