02-06-13 Article

Caption: In recognition of all the general contracting work that Bill Sutherland
and John Andersen have been doing for our gorgeous new addition, Pastor
Judy White gave each of these gentlemen a carpenter cross. We all know that
Jesus was a carpenter; what could be more appropriate? A more formal dedication
will be held in the spring.

Bluff Point UMC article for 2/6/13

Our January 27th worship service began on a high note as we recognized John
Andersen and Bill Sutherland for the work they have done on our new addition.
As Pastor Judy said, they were here at church every single day, working on one
aspect or another of this project.

Our new addition boasts a new entrance area with lots of room for
folks to hang their coats, a bright and sunny new nursery, cupboards for
storage and materials and choir robes and music, a kitchenette (coffee for
meetings!!), an upstairs restroom, new carpeting and floors, and a lift. Parts
of the original upstairs were revamped, reorganized, and refreshed/repainted.
There is lots of room for tables and chairs for Sunday School and meetings.
This “Gathering Room” is beautiful, sunny, and updated!

Bill and John assumed the duties of general contractors for this job,
and they have worked tirelessly.

A formal dedication will be held in the spring, and at that time,
everybody who worked on this addition will be properly thanked. This
formal dedication will, no doubt, be held in the new Gathering Room!!

Food for the Needy needs cereal, cans of corn, and cans of peas. Any
questions, please call Donna Johnston at 536-2683. A donation of one item
per week by each family at Bluff would amount to a large supply of these
much-needed grocery items.

Sunday, February 10th, we will have a Valentine Sunday Celebration
during fellowship. Everyone is encouraged to bring a Valentine
Card for someone special in your life in the church and place it in the box in
the “Gathering Room”.

On Tuesday, February 12th, Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday Pancake
Supper will be served at 6:00 PM.

If Shrove Tuesday is February 12th, then Ash Wednesday must be
February 13th. An Ash Wednesday service will be held at 7:00 PM. this

The Penn Yan Area Council of Churches has announced its schedule
for this year’s Lenten lunches. Lunches will begin at 12:00 noon, they will
be held at the First Baptist Church, and the cost is $5.00 per person.
The theme for this year’s lunches is “The Qualities of Christ”. This year’s

Jesus’s inspiring qualities as his death approached.

The first luncheon for this 2013 Lenten Luncheon series will be held
on Thursday, February 14th. The speaker for this luncheon is Rev. Jeff
Childs. Rev. Childs’s talk is titled, “Ten Bridesmaids Parable” and is based
on Matthew 25: 1-13.

The Wednesday evening Lenten Suppers at UMC Bluff Point will
begin on February 20th.
